Happy Valentines Day – Let’s Lead a Life of Gratitude

Today is Valentines Day. I love this day! Many people would view it as just another commercial holiday to sell flowers, chocolate candy and greeting cards. I see it as a way to tell people how much you love and/or appreciate them. That is something we don’t do enough. As the Toastmaster of my Toastmaster meeting last Friday, I gave people candy when they told a member of the club how much they appreciated them. I knew that the women would get into doing that. I was surprised how much the men got into doing it. We have a great club. If only we would tell people what we appreciate about them more often. I think if this were done more often, there would be fewer suicides. We all love to feel valued and this would help that.

My mission is to teach people how to live a life of joy and contribution. One way to have a more joyful life is to live a life of gratitude. What I’d like everyone to start doing, if you are not already, is to write down at least 3 to 5 things you are grateful for each day. When you do this, you will start looking more for what you are grateful for than what you are upset about.

Another powerful technique to do if you have someone you don’t get along with, each day write down 2 things you appreciate about them. That could be anyone, such as a friend, a child, a spouse, or someone you work with. You will be amazed how doing this will totally transform your relationship with that person. Do it for at least a month or two.

It is so much fun living a life of gratitude. Let’s start telling people what we appreciate about them. If more people would do, this we could transform our world.
